SUMMARY:Kabir: Music of Oneness
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening where timeless poetry meets contemporary sound in a deeply moving musical tribute inspired by the words of Kabir. \nA 15th-century mystic\, poet\, and reformer\, Kabir is one of the most influential voices in Indian spiritual and literary history. Writing in simple yet profound couplets known as dohas\, he spoke directly to the human experience — questioning rigid religious boundaries\, rejecting divisions of caste and creed\, and emphasizing a universal truth rooted in love\, humility\, and inner reflection. Influenced by both Bhakti and Sufi traditions\, Kabir’s poetry transcends time\, culture\, and faith\, with verses that continue to be sung\, studied\, and revered across generations\, including in the Sikh scripture\, the Guru Granth Sahib. \nOn Sunday\, March 29 at 5PM at Zilkha Hall\, The Hobby Center\, the Anirudh Varma Collective brings this legacy to life\, blending modern instrumentation with classical Indian motifs to create innovative arrangements that reflect Kabir’s enduring message of unity and oneness. \nThey are joined by acclaimed vocalist Bhuvanesh Komkali\, whose rich lineage in Indian classical music — as the grandson of the legendary Kumar Gandharva — and deeply expressive vocal style bring emotional depth and authenticity to Kabir’s poetry. Also featuring Kavish Seth\, poet\, singer\, and songwriter\, and creator of the 18-string Noori instrument\, whose work represents a fresh and evolving voice in contemporary Indian music. \nTogether\, these artists present a transcendent performance that honors tradition while embracing creative evolution — a musical experience rooted in reflection\, connection\, and celebration.

SUMMARY:A Thousand Years' Journey - Story of Stolen Gods
DESCRIPTION:Bharata Dance & Allied Arts presents A Thousand Years’ Journey – Story of Stolen Gods at Cowell Theater in San Francisco on March 14\, 2026. Choreographed by Ganesh Vasudeva\, this original Bharatanatyam dance-theater production follows the life of a thousand-year-old bronze Nataraja from Tamil Nadu\, tracing its passage across a millennium through devotion\, displacement\, and rediscovery. \nAt its heart\, A Thousand Years’ Journey is about relationships — between people and the divine\, memory and identity\, and art and belonging. Blending classical Bharatanatyam vocabulary with contemporary storytelling\, the ensemble brings to life a deeply human narrative of devotion\, injustice\, resilience\, and the enduring search for home.

DESCRIPTION:Cinequest fuses innovation with the arts to empower great creations and to connect audiences\, youth\, artists\, and innovators with these creations and with each other—forging community\, joy\, and our future. Set in Silicon Valley\, Cinequest’s uniqueness\, impact\, and legacy result from applying this powerful integration of creativity and technology to democratize opportunity and to transform lives. Cinequest does this through the Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival\, Cinejoy Virtual Festival\, and Picture The Possibilities global youth programs. \nCinequest opens with the magnificent World Premiere comedy Her Song and closes with the highly anticipated Maddie’s Secret and The Christophers — framing a festival journey that begins with innovation and ends in revelation. \nOpening Night: Cinequest 2026 opens on Tuesday\, March 10th at the majestic California Theatre in San Jose with a star-studded red carpet and the Opening Night film\, Her Song. Executive produced by the legendary James Ivory and starring Kalki Koechlin and Eléa Clair\, John M. Keller’s sparkling comedy sends an American novelist back to her grandmother’s French village in search of inspiration. What she finds instead is chaos\, charm\, and an unexpected muse whose irreverent worldview rewrites far more than just her next book. The evening features a special AI & Film presentation (below) before the screening and concludes with a post-screening celebration at the PETE B Center. \nClosing Night: Cinequest’s in-person festival concludes on Sunday\, March 22nd with two spectacular choices at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Mountain View. \nMaddie’s Secret: In his fearless debut\, John Early leads a powerhouse comedic cast including Kate Berlant\, Vanessa Bayer\, Eric Rahill\, and Kristen Johnston in a biting\, hilarious\, and unsettling exploration of wellness culture\, online performance\, and the secrets we hide to remain lovable — on camera and to ourselves. \nThe Christophers: The masterful Steven Soderbergh delivers a razor-sharp comedy as Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel face off in a delicious duel of ego\, art\, and ambition. When a sidelined artist is pulled into a scheme involving a legendary painter and unfinished masterpieces\, the line between integrity and invention becomes dangerously entertaining.

SUMMARY:RAJESH C. OZA at Book Inc. Palo Alto
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin local author Rejesh C. Oza at Books Inc. Palo Alto for a reading and discussion of his novel\, Double Play on the Red Line!\n\n\n\nDon’t Miss RAJESH C. OZA Live at Book Inc. Palo Alto!\nRajesh will be in conversation with Rohit Chopra. \nAbout the book: In Double Play on the Red Line\, Palo Alto novelist Rajesh C. Oza delivers a powerful\, emotionally resonant story of injustice\, alliance\, and hope between two American men of color—one Black\, one Indian—bound by a brutal encounter in Wrigley Field’s iconic bleachers. \nErnie was poised to become one of the first Black players in the Major Leagues. But on the eve of his historic debut in the 1950s\, his life is derailed by a wrongful conviction that steals 16 years from him. When he returns to Wrigley in 1969\, it’s not as a player—but as a peanut vendor. \nRatan\, a young journalism professor and avid Cubs fan\, witnesses a violent assault on Ernie during a game and is galvanized into action. What begins as a moment of horror becomes a journey up and down Chicago’s Red Line discovering multiple truths and venturing deeply into the legacy of racism\, silence\, and survival in America. \nTimeless in its exploration of social justice\, Double Play on the Red Line is both a Chicagoan’s love letter to baseball and an immigrant’s unflinching portrait of America’s contradictions. \nDr. Rajesh C. Oza (President\, OrganiZationAlignment Consulting Group) specializes in advising senior executives to better align their organizations to achieve success. Dr. Oza served as President of Northwestern University’s Industrial Engineering and Management Science Advisory Board. He facilitates the development of MBA Students’ Interpersonal Dynamics at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. He has lived in Palo Alto for over a quarter of a century. \nRaj has written magazine columns\, book reviews\, travel essays\, prize-winning short stories\, and three books of nonfiction: Globalization\, Diaspora\, and Work Transformation: Metaphoric Implications of a Journey to Free-Agency; Satyalogue // Truthtalk: A Gandhian Guide to (Post)Modern-Day Dilemmas; and P.S.\, Papa’s Stories. His debut novel\, Double Play on the Red Line\, was inspired by his daughter’s experience with Northwestern’s Innocence Project; it was completed in Stanford’s two-year novel-writing program. \nModerator Bio: Rohit Chopra (Professor\, Santa Clara University’s Department of Communication) writes on media\, politics\, society\, and culture for a number of global media organizations. He is the author of The Gita for a Global World: Ethical Action in an Age of Flux\, The Virtual Hindu Nation: Saffron Nationalism and New Media\, and Technology and Nationalism in India: Cultural Negotiations from Colonialism to Cyberspace. Rohit currently serves on the advisory board of The Center for the Study of Organized Hate\, an organization dedicated to research and advocacy related to hate networks in mediated and non-mediated spaces.
