SUMMARY:Kirtan with Madhava Naidoo and Jahnavi Harrison
DESCRIPTION:Join renowned artists Madhava Naidoo and Jahnavi Harrison for an evening of life-giving kirtan and songs that will open your heart and lift your voice! Kirtan is a timeless practice of call and response devotional singing. Kirtan builds deep connection and transforms the heart like nothing else. We can’t wait to share this with you. \nListen\nMadhava Naidoo – Kirtan Meditation | MantraLive \nVrikshavalli Hare Krishna — Jahnavi Harrison — LIVE at The Shaw Theatre\, London \nAbout Madhava Naidoo\nMadhava Naidoo was born in 1973 on the island of Mauritius. He was five years old when his parents became fully committed Krishna devotees. Straightaway\, they gave him his first mridanga (Indian clay drum)\, and\, motivated by them\, Madhava chanted 4 rounds of japa every day until he was 13 years old. As a teenager\, he rebelled. After some bumps and wild detours\, his fascination with music led him\, at the age of 18\, to ask his parents to send him to Vrindavan\, the holy city of Krishna. He hoped to join the kirtan party there. In 1992\, on the very first day Madhava arrived in Vrindavan\, he met Aindra das\, the leader of the 24-hour kirtan\, who asked him to join the kirtan party. Every day for the next 5 years Madhava would play mridanga for Aindra das. At the end of 1996 he went back to Mauritius. Barely two years later\, Madhava returned to Vrindavan for a brief stay and\, before leaving\, received the instruction from Aindra das to “always chant Hare Krishna\, even if you have to do it to the four walls—and never stop practicing your mridanga.” \nAbout Jahnavi Harrison\nJahnavi Harrison was raised in a family of Bhakti-yoga practitioners at Bhaktivedanta Manor\, one of England’s most important spiritual landmarks. As a child\, she was fascinated with song and story and has nurtured that interest through her lifelong exploration of music\, dance\, visual art\, and the written word. She is a musician who aims to channel her creative expression as a path to self-realization and service. For over 12 years\, she has traveled the world\, offering her voice and violin playing in the performance of sacred music and call-and-response mantra chant (kirtan). Her sound encompasses rich influences of East and West\, and aims to offer an experience which truly nourishes the spirit. Based in both London and New York\, she offers regular concerts\, sound baths\, and workshops. She released her debut album\, ‘Like a River to the Sea’ in 2015\, and is featured on the Grammy-nominated ‘Bhakti Without Borders’ charity album (2016). Jahnavi presents regularly for BBC Radio 2’s ‘Pause for Thought’ and ‘Something Understood’ on BBC Radio 4.
