DESCRIPTION:Following the fall of the British Indian Empire and the formation of India and Pakistan\, millions of people were displaced amid widespread violence. This exhibition shares the largely untold story of the 1947 Partition through first-hand accounts\, archival photographs\, and multimedia storytelling from those who experienced Partition. \nAbout the Exhibit \nDeveloped in collaboration with The 1947 Partition Archive—a Berkeley-based nonprofit whose book 10\,000 Memories inspired the exhibition—this project is curated by Dr. Guneeta Singh Bhalla\, Founder and Executive Director of the Archive and descendant of a Partition survivor\, and a team of designers and archivists at The 1947 Partition Archive.

In नमक का दारोगा\, an honest salt inspector is swept into the morally flexible world of a powerful businessman. These two gems by Munshi Premchand are stirring tales that looks deep into the human soul as it grapples with moral dilemmas.

DESCRIPTION:(Sierra Madre\, CA – February 27\, 2026) Sierra Madre Playhouse deepens its connection to Indian classical traditions with a program featuring violinist Arun Ramamurthi\, percussionist Nirmal Narayan\, and tabla master Vivek Chellappa performing music rooted in both south Indian Carnatic tradition and north Indian Hindustani practices on Saturday\, April 4\, 2026\, 4:00 PM\, at the historic venue.\n \nThe concert includes classical ragas that begin with extended melodic development (alap)\, move into rhythmic composition (gat)\, and culminate in energetic improvisation and interplay. The artists\, steeped in tradition and deeply respectful of the classical forms – while also skilled across a range of other musical genres – bring to life the subtle world of Indian classical music with its microtonal inflections\, shifting moods\, and spontaneous responses between players\, infusing it with creative openness. \n  \nRamamurthi\, who is noted for merging rigorous classical technique with improvisational breadth\, studied under the celebrated violinist brothers Sri Mysore Nagaraj and Dr. Mysore Manjunath\, the distinguished violinist Sri Ananthakrishnan\, and Western classical violinist Jim Mate.  \nNarayan\, a disciple of the eminent mridangam maestro Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman\, is recognized for his virtuosity in rhythmic accompaniment and deep commitment to the classical idiom of Indian rhythm. \nChellappa began studying mridangam\, an ancient double-sided\, South Indian barrel drum\, at age six\, under Sri R.
