Indian Jazz Journey

June 21 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm PDT

ICMA is proud to collaborate with Stanford Jazz Festival to present a special Indian Jazz Journey featuring Mahesh Kale and George Brooks—an extraordinary, annual sell-out favorite that brings together two rich musical worlds in one unforgettable evening—as part of the Stanford Jazz Festival 2026, held at the iconic Bing Concert Hall on Sunday, June 21.

Experience the enchanting synergy of superstar vocalist Mahesh Kale and saxophone virtuoso George Brooks in a performance that will captivate and inspire. Indian Jazz Journey is a compelling encounter between Indian classical and Western jazz traditions. Kale’s powerful voice blends with Brooks’ soulful saxophone, weaving intricate Indian ragas and rhythms with the improvisational spirit of jazz to create a tapestry of both familiar and unexpected sounds.

Joined by stellar guest artists from both traditions – Utsav Lal (piano), Sabir Khan (sarangi), Michael Manring (electric bass), Eman Hashimi (tabla), Greg Ellis (percussions) – this extraordinary performance promises mesmerizing improvisations and a deeply personal exploration of the intersection of cultures through music.

“Mahesh Kale is not just a singer—he is an emotion weaver.” — The Times of India
“Bristling with East meets West polytonality and rhythmic intrigue, tinged with a Trane-like spirituality… [Brooks] succeeds to a startling and almost rapturous degree.” — San Francisco Bay Guardian
